My air conditioning just went out in my Civic, help?

home air conditioning
snwboardnchic99 asked:

I have a 2000 Honda Civic, and the air conditioning just stopped working on the way home. It was working perfectly, then suddenly it started blowing hot air. Not just “less cold” air, I mean HOT air (it was probably 95 degrees outside). The engine was not overheated. Honda wants to charge $90 for a diagnostics test, and if it’s going to cost more than a few hundred dollars to fix we probably won’t fix it.

Has anyone had a similar experience and can estimate what’s wrong and what it would cost? If you need any further details, I’ll check back! Thanks!

There are many reasons why the air might have gone warm…

you need to open the hood and listen to see if the ac compressor is clicking when you turn the switch on…..

it could be a low freon charge.

it could be a fuse / compressor relay

did you turn your temp control nob to the hot posision at all? because if the cable broke your control inside could be stuck on hot even when you put it to cold…

first see if the compressor is running

the compressor should click when you push the ac button and the fan in front of the radiator should come on.

if this happens leave it on for about 5 minutes and find the low side ac line it’s crome and runs into the car through the firewall…

if you feel this line after the ac has run for 5 min it should feel cold…

if it does feel cold and the air inside is hot… your temp control cable on the inside could be broken…

get back to me with more details

Paul
