Home Air Conditioning Repairs Basics For You

Ricky Lim asked:

Home air conditioning repair is one of those few difficult tasks you must repair with care. For repairing the air conditioner of your sweet house, you need to first know how an air conditioner works.

Model Partition of an air conditioner

Generally, an air-conditioner has two different working parts on which it actually functions. These are the evaporator and the condenser. While the condenser of an air-conditioner is placed outside the room or the location it is used for, the evaporator is placed inside the main cabinet of the air-conditioner.

Most people connect their air conditioners to the air distribution system and so, and they have a common motor, ductwork and blower for heating as well as throwing cold air outside. Home air conditioning repairs is not a one time activity as you would need perform it all throughout the life of the air conditioner so knowing the technical operations of a air conditioner is of utmost important.

When you switch on the air conditioner, the hot air present in the room is sucked and channeled to the furnace from with help of return duct. The hot air then moves to the evaporator coils present in plenum which direct it towards the cooling house. Plenums are special coils for air circulation and ventilation. All the working of an air conditioner depends on the set of plenum which facilitates the air channel. So, if your air conditioner is not cooling the room, it is likely to have a problem in its air distribution channel or plenums.

While do-it-yourself repair service is doable for small or minor faults in an air conditioner, for specific faults or breakdowns, you should call a technician for serious home air conditioning repairs. Cleaning of the evaporator and other menial tasks may be performed by you but make sure you do not try your hands at something you are adept at.

My air conditioning just went out in my Civic, help?

home air conditioning
snwboardnchic99 asked:

I have a 2000 Honda Civic, and the air conditioning just stopped working on the way home. It was working perfectly, then suddenly it started blowing hot air. Not just “less cold” air, I mean HOT air (it was probably 95 degrees outside). The engine was not overheated. Honda wants to charge $90 for a diagnostics test, and if it’s going to cost more than a few hundred dollars to fix we probably won’t fix it.

Has anyone had a similar experience and can estimate what’s wrong and what it would cost? If you need any further details, I’ll check back! Thanks!

Home air conditioning unit keeps blowing the fuse?

home air conditioning
asked:

Got a new ac unit installed about 7 years ago, has worked perfect all this time and then about 2 weeks ago it stopped working. I opened up the removable panel on the unit itself, which is in the basement, and there was a single fuse hanging off a bunch of wires. Upon closer inspection the fuse was blown, it was a 20 amp brown fuse. I went to the store, bought a box of new ones, same thing, 20 amps and brown and replaced it. Within a minute it kicked on again and has worked great. Now, last night it stopped working again, so I opened the panel again to find that this 2 week old fuse I just put in is now blown also. Took it out, replaced it, and ac kicked right on and is running great. Both times I checked the circuit breaker first and it was not popped so that is okay, anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening?
Ok so after about 3 hours of the new fuse being put in today and the ac running perfect, I came home to an 82 degree house while it was set to 68…I felt air coming out of the vents but it wasnt cold, went down to check the fuse again but this time it wasnt even blown. I have just air coming out of the vents not cold air. Also, the fuse that I have been talking about is an automotive fuse, there is a bundle of wires inside the panel and hanging off them are 2 wires with female connectors, this is where the brown, flat, 5amp fuse was plugged in.
Anyone have any ideas now that we have some new info?

Why is my home air condition is blowing warm air?

home air conditioning
Big B asked:

I had been away for two months, when I got home last week, I turned the air back down from 85 to 76 and left for 4 hours. When I got home, the house was still hot, after fidgeting with the unit and thermostat, I got the unit working at about 1am. It has worked great until today. I left early this am and again turned the temp back to 85. When I got home the house was over 90 degress and I now the AC is not blowing cold air again. The thermostat is original and been meaning to replace, so I did to no avail. Unfortunately, my A/C unit is on the roof of the 3 story condo and I can’t get up there.
