asked: Assume 90 deg F. outside. House is cool at 75 deg a/c setting. If the grand kids leave the door open for 5 minutes, how much heat is lost and how long does the A/C unit have to run (appx) to return to 75 deg inside?
Is there a rule of thumb to equate this loss to $$$ so I can communicate with the wife and kids? They complain that the a/c doesn’t cool but it’s fine when the kids are gone for the day. All else being constant. Thx anyone. My first time asking a Yahoo question. Hope I did it rite.
Thanks, Phillip. We have the unit serviced every spring/fall and its ok. I’m just trying to put the cost of leaving the doors open in terms of gummy bears or peanut butter cups so they will understand. Thx.

shllyshny1967 asked: We have a 2001 Ford Escape V-6 and the air conditioning is barely cooler than just the fan alone. I thought it just needed a shot of freon, so we had the diagnostics performed at the Ford dealership and was told that everything is within specs. No problems. Zip. Nada. Nichts. After paying the $110 and sweating like a *bleep* in church on the way home, I thought to myself, “This is wrong on so many levels. Those mechanics are full of poopoo!” Anyway, thought I might give this Yahoo question thing a try. Any ideas would be appreciated. We have a 10 month old, and she is just soaked in sweat everytime I take her somewhere.

monlee asked: How do you determine a good temperature for your central air conditioning system? I just got central air in my own home. What should I set it at depending on what the outdoor temperature is?
Also, should we leave it on when we are at work? Does it cost more when it is powered on and off?
elvmita–i know that it depends on specific factors, such as the one you have listed. I also know that it depends on my personal preferences. I agree that I will learn what is best over time….But, I wanted opinions; that is why I posted my question on Yahoo!ANSWERS.com.
